As part of each package, training is included to ensure consistency and understanding of the curriculum delivery within the setting. The training aims are:
- To explain what the Emotional and Social curriculum is and who it is for.
- To explain how the curriculum works.
- To consider the role of the adult within the group and how to form the group.
- To consider the use of assessment tools to support the curriculum.
The curriculum is for children who are functioning emotionally and socially below their chronological ages. The curriculum can be used in mainstream and specialist provisions across a variety of age groups.

What you will learn
The Emotional and Social curriculum is a sequence of planned experiences which support children to practice and achieve proficiency in content and applied learning skills. The Mulberry Bush Emotional and Social curriculum focuses learning on the five core competencies of successful emotional and social development:

- Social awareness
- Relationship skills
- Responsible decision making
The curriculum has been designed to be delivered daily in an informal teaching situation, for example, circle time. The activities can be delivered in small groups or as a whole class session.
The Emotional & Social Curriculum is designed to be used with groups of up to 10 children. It can be used across mainstream and specialist schools.
Anyone working with children and young people can be trained to use the Emotional & Social Curriculum.

Mulberry Bush has been developing therapeutic approaches to working with children, young people and the adults around them for nearly 80 years.
Our training is rooted in practice. It draws on the day-to-day experience of our therapeutic schools, alongside established theory, current research and learning from professionals across children’s services. Our trainers have direct experience of working within the field and understand both the value and the emotional demands of this work.
