Hi everyone. It is the end of the first day in Gambia.
We arrived quite late last night, had some dinner and went to bed. This morning we did the essential bits – getting SIM cards, exchanging money – and a few of us went into the local village for a little explore. We saw some goats and some local people selling really cool things.
This afternoon we were taken to the beach for a bit of a relaxed calm before the storm, which was lovely. We spent the afternoon there getting to know people.
Tomorrow we're meeting our partners, Daughters of Africa and Diego, who are going to be supporting us throughout the next two weeks. We'll finalise our projects and make sure they're ready to go for Monday morning.
I'm working with some psychology students from UWE Bristol and we've developed a sport-based project which includes social, emotional and nurture aspects. At The Mulberry Bush I run the social emotional curriculum, and I've been incorporating that into the work the psychology students will be doing – a collaborative approach to thinking about social and emotional regulation through sport and PE.
We've had a nice relaxing day, but we're starting to think about the next couple of weeks and what we're going to be delivering. Make sure to follow along and I'll keep you updated as we go. See you tomorrow guys.
