The child or young person feels secure enough to be able to engage in dialogue and express thoughts and feelings, in a way that develops knowledge and understanding of how to deal with, and contain difficult feelings and behaviour
(Service Standards for Children and Young People – 2nd Edition 2008)
Our highly trained staff group help each child to develop their own abilityto keep themselves and others safe. This is done through a non-punitive approach to the resolution of conflict and developing ones ability to talk about difficulties rather than act them out. Ownership of the rules and boundaries helps this, as does the development of ones ability to think about the impact we have on each other.
We work to support the children to feel safe in their physical and emotional environment to enable them to risk change, try new ways of relating to and being with others. Working with the children in groups is central to this. Staff work closely together to provide this support to the children and to identify when there is a need for physical containment to provide a safe and secure place.
Again working with the children in groups is central to this, helped by staff who are well supervised and trained.
